community service and realities ::
yagong and jewel popped over for my house yesterday. they came back from cambodia and were discussing the incidents they had during the trip. it sounded really nice and i think they'd kinda matured over the trip like some mangoes, you know they mature over the fruit bowl. heh. its humbling and eye opening experience for them - they can live with so little and they missed our traffic lights back home. well, you can imagine how fortunate we are.
hm.
anyway, i hope our singapore team at acheh and thailand (i think?) can help build the infrastructure of the nation. looking at the destruction and their living conditions, the people living in villages in places like that as well as areas untouched by the tsunamis, i find their reality very sobering and im glad that many singaporeans are not still stuck in their, little world.
but then again, we have to look at our reality. i wanted to go and help with world vision. They're requesting for volunteers. and my juniors, i think they wanted to help too. asked my dad, but my dad he was like.. yah.. i know you want to help, but erm, if you help who's going to feed the family? i mean.. yes they provide free airtickets and meals there, but whose going to provide for your meals when you come back. Okay, im not from particularly well off family, but yes, someone has to do the job of making sure, my brothers and parents have 3 meals a day right? to be honest. THAT's our REALITY.
So, erm, the best thing i can do it to send money. well, that's the most practical thing to do. get real, send condolences, do you think it can reinstate those devestated families back emotionally? nor financially? at least building up the infrastructure and sending money can. sending water and food will tide the over a short period of time.
like what my friend said, the world will continue to roll without you. hai.. suddenly it sounded so sad and there's nothing you can do about it. but hey, at least, remember we are humans, we have memories and we still can help, with someone else's future and rebuilt their lives and move on.
it's the age-old resilience instilled in human beings which will propell us to 'bounce higher'.
